Don't Watch Videos of Actual Knee Replacement Surgery
Iam having a TKR next month and every time I see one of these vids I have second thoughts
My replacement surgery is coming up on 7/23 so your info is very helpful. Thanks!
Great info! Only issue I occasionally have are little zappey feelings in the knee I had TKR; doesn't hurt just annoying 😅
I asked my surgeon why is the pain constant and actually hasn't decreased at all 5 months out. He shrugged it off and said " I don't know, i asked him again he reply " don' t know ask PT. So I asked PT they said that they don,'t know. So I am 4 months, 3 weeks post op, stuck on the couch. 😢
So sad. You need to continue asking your surgeon, because he must send you to have x rays or something to look inside your surgery.
No way! Yes bug that surgeon and anyone else you can til you get answers 😊
You are God sent to me! Thank you for thoroughly explaining this to me. I’m post op 18 months from my left TKA and I still have pain daily. Walking, standing, sleeping, sitting and doing regular daily activities seems to make my knee hurt more at times. I feel like there is a lot of extra scar tissue that I can’t seem to break up. Surgery was 12-6-22, then MUA 12-14-23 and I feel that my pain should be gone. Therapy for 4 months. 🤦🏽♀️Some days my pain is really low about 3-5 and that’s awesome! It’s when it goes back to 10 or more that I don’t understand. However, I continue to do my exercises at home. I use ice, infrared lights, cupping, and diclofenac gel to aid in my pain. I’m thankful for your videos! I’ll continue to watch them to help figure out why I’m going through what I’m going through. THANK YOU!!!!!🙏🏽
Who was his Knee Dr ? I need knee replacement and I’m a little afraid of it !
I still have pain after a year, surgeon thinks it is the knee cap as he didn't replace that, so now after a year I am going back in yo have surgury again, not happy, why did he not do the knee cap when he did the replacement
You say your goal is to get patients off a walker in just 2 weeks at most? Why do I read and hear from other sources (actual Orthopedic Doctors) that say for a Hip or Total Knee Replacement Surgery you can expect to take at least 4 weeks of using a walker. They want you to be safe and be practicing better gait with a walker than with a Cane or Crutches. In a TKR Surgery your Quadriceps is cut in order to safely get to the knee components to perform the surgery. When the Quadriceps is cut it only has about 60% of its previous strength until it fully heals.
There is definitely some variability in the duration as there are many factors that play a role in how long a walker is needed, but this is just a generalization that for most patients by 2 weeks we’re looking at making that transition. However, I do also state in the video that some people will take longer and that’s perfectly ok. I agree safety and good gait pattern are very important.
Good clear instruction and demonstration. I am at 4 weeks post op and doing a combination of these exercises.
Thanks. My cane height was way off. Good now.
Glad the video was helpful!
This may be the answer to my prayers I will definitely try this thank you very much.
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching, hope it helps!
Thank you for this video. I do have a bicycle under the desk style. I did have an MUA done. Flamingo stand is hard but I will push more.
You are very welcome, best wishes with your continued recovery!
Thank you, this is helpful I'm in physical therapy, they do a manual bend, and I'm tight.
You are very welcome, thanks for watching and best wishes!
After a TKR a month ago my extension is 5°. I have been working HARD to improve this but only minor success so far (8° down to 5° now).. I do look forward to trying this! But I'll be lucky using 2# akkle weights and lasting 1 minute!! Sooooo painful!! Getting back flexion was so much easier!! Started at 92° and am now at 124°
Hang in there! It sounds like you're making progress with your flexion, which is fantastic. Extension can be more challenging, but keep up the hard work-it'll pay off. Don't hesitate to adjust the weights or duration as needed to manage the pain.
I am 11 weeks post recovery. I am at 90 degrees, I am in pain all the time. My Lupus condition contributes to the swelling and pain. Thank you for your video.
Hang in there, 11 weeks post-recovery is still early in the healing process. It's tough dealing with pain, especially with Lupus adding to it. Keep following your treatment plan and stay strong. Sending positive vibes your way!
Thank you for your videos, they are so helpful….
You are so welcome!
I went back to work 8 weeks post op from my RTKR People are commenting that I'm still limping. I can't extend all the way. I'm at 90 ° riggt now. Any advice?
Thanks for the question... continue to work on range of motion exercises both extension and flexion... quad sets, heel slides, etc. Also, you may have an issue of quadricep / thigh muscle strength. Focus on building strength. And the last thing, just keep walking, practice makes perfect, or at least better.
@@KneeReplacementTherapists Thanks!!
How many sets do you recommend each day? I’ve been doing it everyday after ACL surgery but not feel much difference.
This will fluctuate depending on how far out you are from surgery. Early on I would try doing the exercises 2-3 times per day and doing 1-2 sets of each exercises, but more importantly, focus on the specific advice of your physical therapist as they can identify the most specific impairments for you to work on. Thanks!
I had TKR of my right knee Feb. No muscle pain. Just had my left knee replaced two weeks ago. My knee is great but my left calf is killing me. Physical therapy had been more focused on it over the knee. Thank goodness my knee is fantastic. Phewwww
Glad to hear your knee is doing great! Hang in there with the calf pain-physical therapy should help ease it soon.
Why is my knee still so tight?
This is usually due to scar tissue formation, but also may be due to swelling and the soft tissue around the knee (ligaments / tendons) still adapting to the new knee. One of the best things for knee stiffness is to just keep moving... both your knee and your body. Gentle activity as easy as walking can help your body and tissues adapt and continue to heal and feel better with time. Best wishes!
I had my knee replaced 8 weeks ago. I have achieved 0 degree and 118 degrees range of motion. In the last week my hip back and front of my top thigh are so painful I have not been able to move much. My pt has never done the exercises I have been watching in your videos. I’m so discouraged because my recovery has been amazing. I felt no pain (just the tight band feeling) and was cleared to drive at 4 weeks. Is my hip and thigh pain due to improper gait? I know I’m walking wrong since I have had bone on bone arthritis in both knees for 5 years . I did this surgery so I can walk but everything else hurts so much I’m chair bound again 😔
I'm sorry to hear about the hip and thigh pain you're dealing with after your knee replacement surgery. The pain in your hip and thigh could indeed be related to your gait. After surgery, getting used to a new way of walking can sometimes cause discomfort in other areas, especially if your gait isn't quite right. It might be worth chatting with your physical therapist about this to see if there are any adjustments or exercises that could help. If you've been watching specific exercise videos and your PT hasn't covered them, don't hesitate to bring them up during your sessions. Recovery can have its ups and downs, but addressing these issues can really make a difference. Best wishes!
Ankle surgery
These exercises may help after ankle surgery, but be sure to follow the specific instructions from your doctor including any precautions or activities / exercises to avoid.
I had my TKR Jan 2023. It is now June 2024 and not only do I have knee pain worse than before I had my knee replaced, but now my hip and lower back hurt constantly. The surgeon never once explained that I might have hip and lower back pain as a side effect of the TKR. He made it seem like I’d be practically skipping once I had this done. I’m now seeking a second opinion. My advice, don’t mess with your bodies original parts unless it is absolutely necessary. I would never, ever do this again, but if you must, get 2nd and 3rd opinions before allowing the Dr to ruin your life. I can no longer stand for long periods of time, I wear a knee brace constantly, and on days where the pain is almost unbearable I use a cane. Worst decision I ever made
I am very sorry to hear about your bad outcome following surgery. I hope you are able to find the help and relief you need.
Show demo pls talking only...
Thank you for your feedback.
I'm nine weeks post knee replacement surgery and one week post manipulation procedure with a rom of 108. Every morning my knee is stiff beyond belief and feel as though pens are sticking in the incision along with burning sensations in the thigh muscles. I have been doing the exercises given to me by my therapist but every morning is like starting anew. It is discouraging. I will definitely incorporate your exercises into my regime.
Thank you for watching, these are very normal symptoms to experience as you rehab from surgery. My best advice is stay the course and continue to be consistent with your exercises and physical therapy. Although you may seem like nothing is changing, I can ensure you the exercises are beneficial. Hopefully, with a little time you will start to see gradual improvements. Best wishes to you!
I feel exactly like you. The pins and needles and pain. I dread getting out of bed each day.
Thank you looks good but not so easy when you’re 80
I totally get it, but trying, even though not perfect, and building consistency can go a long way. Best wishes to you!
Please get on with it
🙏🙏
A few months ago I hurt my knee, it swelled up and wouldn't bend. I have 90 degrees now, but need more. I do not want a knee replacement. I have no pain in day-to-day activities just when I try to bend it more. It hurts to go further than 90. I am afraid of hurting it more. Should I try these?
Although possible, it is not likely you are causing further damage to anything by continuing to work on your bending with different exercises. You most likely would be ok trying these exercises, but my disclaimer is it's a good idea to consult with your personal physician to have a in-person assessment of the knee just to rule out any concerns.
Your tips and suggestions are really helpful and seem to cover many of my concerns - 11 weeks after TKR. A big problem I'm having in the UK is that pavements (sidewalks) are so uneven and potholed that it's easy to stub my toes which is agony.
Glad you found the video helpful! Uneven surfaces like you describe are definitely an added challenge. Like most things practice, practice, practice and giving your body the time to heal and continue to recovery from surgery. Best wishes to you!
I have put TKR off for 25 years but now I get hematoma in the knee. Unfortunately I tore my right patellar tendon, had surgery two months ago and doing PT for that. But the left knee is arthritic and weak. I am concerned about TKR with a weak knee and atrophied muscles. If I put pressure on the patella, I swell up with blood in the joint.
This obviously can add challenges to the recovery process following a knee replacement surgery. However, I will say that many people who get a knee replacement have severe arthritis or other impairments in both legs. If you do plan to have surgery, continue to perform exercises for strength and range of motion leading up to surgery. The more strength and motion you have going into surgery the more efficient your recovery will be.
It really does exist that your training is very important and ❤beneficial thanks
You're so welcome!
Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
THANKS VERY MUCH FOR EXPLANATION HIGHLY APPRECIATED THE VIDEO GOD BLESS.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for your videos. They are so helpful. I am seven weeks postop and at 4 to 6 weeks. I was doing very well then I started doing some squats, maybe to deep? and now I have a lot of tightness around the knee. I spoke to the physician about getting an x-ray and she said there was no need to and I spoke to the physiotherapist and she said that it’s just because of the increased activity. The only way I can explain it is I have a great bend at 120 and my extension is zero but as I walk with my surgical leg when my toe comes off the ground that bend right there feels like someone has a vice grip around my leg. It’s so frustrating and I just don’t know what to think about it so I’ve been watching your videos. I’m so glad that put out a new one on walking. I will try this tomorrow. Thank you again you’re so helpful. God bless you.
You are very welcome, thank you for watching! Unfortunately, what you are describing is a common symptom to experience during the recovery from knee replacement surgery. Hopefully with continued rehab and trying some of the things in the videos, you will see improvements over time. Best wishes to you!
Do you think these would be ok soon after upper thigh lypoma removal surgery? I don't want to stop exercise for 6 weeks Thanks
I don't know the answer to this. You should recommend your personal physician for this question. Thanks for watching and best wishes to you.
Had my knee replacement in spain and kept in Bed for 2 days before any movement but ive progress has been good no Pysio here done my own 2 months in and playing golf so you can do it alone
Thank you for sharing you personal experience. It sounds like you are doing very well, best wishes with your continued recovery following surgery.
I'm six months out from my left leg TKR wish id known that the pain meds would be discontinued so soon or I wouldn't have had it. Tramadol is useless.
Sorry to hear about your continued pain after surgery. Hopefully you are able to work with your healthcare providers to determine an optimal pain management approach that works for you.
Thanks for your valuable information and video it's help me very much for my lower back pain started after total knee replacement Thanks for sharing such video.
You are very welcome, hope you find these exercises helpful!
Do you think I would be ok working out at the gym? Doing barbell squats, hack squats? Im 35 and always been very fit. Im due a knee replacement in August due to wear and tear over the last 13 years
First, the best person to ask this is your personal physician / surgeon. In general, I think it is okay to do these things but you may need to modify some things such as amount of weight, how deep you're squatting. It's better to focus on lighter weight and more repetitions in general to reduce stress through the knees. It is in general ok to work through a little pain but you don't want to have the mindset of "no pain, no gain" Exacerbating your pain will make it more difficult to exercise or do other activities. Again, best to follow the advice of your personal healthcare team.
Good morning thank u for explaining sooo well about the stiffness because I am soo stiff I am going in my fourth month of total knee replacement thank u very much.
You are very welcome, I hope the stretches in this video are helpful!
Hi Peterson I am Asiyah is this as you I had done my both knee replacement surgery one an half years ago but still I have limping in my walking what should I do please reply me thank you.
My best recommendations are within the video. If you are limping because of pain or decreased motion in the knees it may be appropriate to consult with your physician and/or physical therapist to have a personalized assessment performed.
Thank you Peterson I will follow your video fo walking normally Thank God I have no pain but my leg stiff at night.
Thank you for the tips. What exercises can I do for ankle tightness on the affected leg?
Thank you for watching. Some exercises you can try are a standing calf stretch and heel raises. For the calf stretch stagger your feet and then while keeping them flat lean forward against a wall until you feel a stretch in the calf, hold for about 10-30sec, no more than a medium intensity. Heel raises, hold onto a surface for support and slow and controlled raise up onto your toes and then slow and controlled come back down.
Thank you for your tips!
You are very welcome!
8 weeks post.op left knee and WAS walking fine without walker or cane, even driving 5-15 min trips, and at end of physio govt paid physio course last week, when over the course of last 7 days my opposite side's groin and entire hip/ buttock became so painful to walk or put pressure on when standing up from couch on. Have had to go back to cane, and switch it to help non.operated side! Is this normal? Should I call surgeon for xray on opposite hip? Or just find a new physio program? Totally confused and frustrated since was walking well and exercising fine earlier. Have stopped all exercise and lessened my walks from 3 blocks to 1. No idea it could affect other hip etc and had no arthritic systems before left knee surgery. Have to get right knee surgery done, likely not till next spring. Will my right hip be wrecked by then??? Very worried. Any suggestions appreciated. Find your videos helpful! Thx!
Thank you for your question, sorry to hear about your hip pain. This is not normal but is not uncommon to develop some pain in other joints / areas after surgery as you may be moving differently and putting different stresses through your body and joints. If the pain persists the best thing to do is consult with your physician and they can make specific recommendations for you.
@KneeReplacementTherapists Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate your input and expertise on ALL of your videos! Very helpful!
Honest answer too long! Many months of intense, severe pain and still not convinced it was the right decision.
Sorry to hear about your prolonged pain after surgery. Hope you are able to find the help and support you need.
Thank you! Very helpful. I picked up my pace and that worked well. I didn’t limp as much and sometimes not at all.
Glad to hear it!
Thank you thank you 100 times over!😊

You’re very welcome!
Can foot problems cause knee and hip pain?
Yes, particularly if it causes issues with the alignment of your foot or you have reduced range of motion. Your body moves like a chain so if there is an issue with one part or can cause pain or issues with other parts.
come to the point
